Shantanu Thakur highlights India’s Maritime Heritage and future vision at India Maritime Week 2025

MUMBAI : Shri Shantanu Thakur, Hon’ble Minister of State for Ports, Shipping & Waterways, participated in multiple key sessions and events at India Maritime Week 2025, underscoring India’s commitment to preserving its maritime heritage while advancing modern maritime infrastructure and global connectivity.

Speaking at the session on ‘India’s Maritime Heritage’, Shri Thakur highlighted the significance of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) being developed at Lothal, Gujarat. Describing it as the world’s largest maritime museum, he noted that the complex will showcase India’s glorious maritime legacy in an engaging, accessible, and educational format — connecting the nation’s ancient seafaring traditions with its contemporary maritime aspirations.

The Minister also addressed the session on ‘Fortifying Global Supply Chains’, organized by Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA), alongside Hon’ble Deputy Minister of Myanmar, Mr. Aung Kyaw Tun, and Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, Chairman, JNPA. The discussions focused on strengthening regional cooperation and building resilient supply chain linkages across the Indo-Pacific.

Later, Shri Thakur graced the MoU Exchange Ceremony at India Maritime Week 2025, witnessing the signing of several strategic MoUs spanning port development, shipbuilding, green energy, digital infrastructure, and inland waterways. These partnerships mark a bold step towards realizing India’s vision of a sustainable, technology-driven, and globally connected maritime ecosystem.

India Maritime Week 2025 continues to serve as a premier platform for collaboration, innovation, and investment in India’s maritime sector—bringing together global leaders, industry stakeholders, and policymakers to shape the future of blue economy growth.
