MoPSW holds Stakeholder Consultation to finalise Shipbuilding Scheme Guidelines
NEW DELHI: The Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW) convened a crucial stakeholder consultation meeting on Friday, 5th December, 2025 in New Delhi, led by Shri Vijay Kumar (IAS), Secretary, MoPSW, to advance the strategic roadmap for India’s shipbuilding sector.
Held at Transport Bhavan, the meeting saw active participation from a diverse group of industry representatives, including major shipyards, shipping lines, State Maritime Boards, Industrial Departments, maritime associations, financial institutions, as well as officials from various ministries and partner organisations.
The consultation focused on finalising the operational guidelines for the transformative shipbuilding development initiatives recently approved by the Union Cabinet under a comprehensive support package of approximately ₹70,000 crore. These initiatives include the Shipbuilding Financial Assistance Scheme, the Maritime Development Fund, and the Shipbuilding Development Scheme.
These programs are designed to drive India’s self-reliance in shipbuilding, expand domestic manufacturing capabilities, enable global competitiveness, and strengthen the country’s maritime infrastructure. Participants engaged in discussions around implementation frameworks, financial support mechanisms, and collaborative pathways to accelerate sectoral growth.
MoPSW emphasized that the shipbuilding initiatives will play a pivotal role in positioning India as a major hub for ship construction and repair, boosting job creation, innovation, and economic development across coastal regions.
The Ministry is expected to finalise and roll out the guidelines soon, paving the way for enhanced industry participation and strategic investments under the ambitious maritime development vision.
