CMA CGM revises India–Mediterranean Service to strengthen reliability amid Red Sea disruptions

MARSEILLE : CMA CGM has announced a revision to its weekly India–Mediterranean (Medex) Service, aimed at improving schedule reliability and responding to the evolving operating environment in the Red Sea region.

Under the updated rotation, the service will now call at Malta, Port Said (Egypt), and Beirut. At the same time, earlier port calls at Valencia and Barcelona in Spain, and Fos-sur-Mer in France, have been withdrawn. The revised loop is intended to better match current cargo flows and enhance operational efficiency as carriers navigate continued uncertainty in regional maritime conditions.

The change mirrors a broader industry shift as security concerns in the Red Sea have periodically prompted vessels to avoid the Suez Canal and instead reroute via the longer Cape of Good Hope passage. With conditions showing signs of gradual improvement, shipping lines are cautiously reassessing Red Sea and Suez transits while retaining contingency routing options.

CMA CGM’s updated Medex rotation highlights its focus on network agility and dependable connectivity between South Asia and major Mediterranean hubs—an important consideration for shippers seeking greater schedule predictability in a fluid global trade environment.
