Japanese delegation explores shipbuilding & repair opportunities at DPA Kandla
GANDHIDHAM : A high-level Japanese delegation called on the Chairman of Deendayal Port Authority (DPA), Kandla, to explore new avenues of collaboration in shipbuilding and ship repair, reinforcing the growing maritime partnership between India and Japan.
During the interaction, Chairman Shri Sushil Kumar Singh, IRSME, presented a comprehensive overview of DPA’s upcoming infrastructure and maritime development projects. He highlighted their strategic importance in advancing the objectives of the National Shipbuilding Mission and Maritime India Vision 2030, with a focus on enhancing domestic shipbuilding capacity, strengthening repair ecosystems, and positioning India as a global maritime hub.
The discussions covered potential areas of collaboration, including technology transfer, capacity building, sustainable shipbuilding practices, and investment opportunities in modern shipyard infrastructure. Both sides expressed keen interest in leveraging Japanese expertise in advanced shipbuilding technologies and efficient port-led industrial development.


As part of the visit, the delegation undertook detailed site inspections, gaining firsthand insights into the proposed shipyard locations and development potential at Kandla and Veera. The visit provided a comprehensive understanding of the region’s strategic advantages, including connectivity, hinterland access, and availability of land for large-scale maritime projects.
Senior officials from DPA emphasized the Authority’s commitment to facilitating ease of doing business and creating a conducive ecosystem for global partnerships. The engagement is expected to pave the way for future collaborations, contributing to India’s vision of becoming a leading player in the global shipbuilding and ship repair industry.
