MoPSW Secretary engages with Shipping Lines to strengthen India’s Maritime Growth Agenda
MUMBAI: In a significant step towards fostering closer collaboration with the maritime industry, Shri Vijay Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), held one-on-one interactions with representatives of various global and domestic shipping lines at the Directorate General of Shipping in Mumbai on 14 May 2026.
The high-level engagement reflected the Government of India’s continued focus on strengthening the country’s maritime ecosystem through proactive industry consultation and policy facilitation. During the interactions, Secretary (PSW) invited shipping companies to share their business expansion plans, operational requirements, and key challenges impacting growth and efficiency in the sector.

The discussions covered a wide range of issues concerning shipping operations, capacity expansion, infrastructure support, regulatory facilitation, and measures aimed at enhancing India’s competitiveness in the global maritime landscape. The initiative is aligned with the Government’s broader vision of transforming India into a leading maritime and logistics hub under the Maritime India Vision and Amrit Kaal roadmap.
Reaffirming the Government’s commitment to industry partnership, Shri Vijay Kumar emphasized that the Ministry remains open to constructive dialogue and collaborative engagement with stakeholders across the shipping value chain. He assured participants that the Government would continue working closely with the industry to address genuine concerns, improve ease of doing business, and create a conducive environment for sustainable growth in the maritime sector.
The interaction was widely seen as a positive move towards building stronger trust between policymakers and shipping industry stakeholders, while reinforcing India’s commitment to developing a resilient, efficient, and future-ready maritime sector.
