MUMBAI : State-owned multi-modal logistics company Container Corporation of India Ltd (CONCOR) has barred Braithwaite & Co Ltd from participating in its tenders for a year after the Kolkata-based manufacturing firm, also state-owned, walked out of a tender for supplying rakes where it was the lowest bidder.

Braithwaite & Co Ltd was the lowest bidder in a tender floated by CONCOR for supplying 14 BLCS rakes – 630 numbers (252 BLCSA wagons and 378 BLCSB wagons).

The lowest bid placed by Braithwaite & Co Ltd was accepted by CONCOR and a notification of award was issued to the firm.

However, Brathwaite & Co Ltd told CONCOR that it “will not be able to accept” the notification of award, without citing reasons.

“Due to non-acceptance of notification of award (NoA), complete tendering process of CONCOR has been derailed, resulting in loss of time in the execution of the above said work,” A K Mishra, a Senior General Manager, Technical, CONCOR, wrote in a 29 March letter to Braithwaite & Co Ltd.

“ln view of the above, action has been taken against your firm. The competent authority has approved to debar your firm for participating in CONCOR tenders for the period of 12 months from the date of issue of this letter (29 March),” Mishra added.
