GANDHIDHAM : Deendayal Port Authority, Kandla has handled 12.04 MMT cargo in the month of July 2022, which is a new record of traffic handled in a single month and surpasses the previous record achieved in the month of April 2022 by 2.63%.
The volume of cargo handled in the month of July 2022 surpasses the traffic volume handled in the corresponding period of last fiscal by 30.49%. This has become possible due to inclusion of powerhouse coal in the cargo basket of DPA and the consistent volume of high-productive cargo like salt and aggregate.
In the first four months of the current fiscal, the cargo volume handled by DPA has reached 46.52 MMT which is about 11.66% higher than the Traffic handled in the corresponding period of the last financial year.
DPA, Kandla handles a substantial volume of cargo which are weather sensitive in nature. The productivity of ships loading/ unloading such cargo drops drastically during monsoons and as such capacity of berths used to remain underutilized earlier. However, with meticulous planning and preemptive actions, DPA has translated an otherwise disadvantageous situation into opportunity by allotting berths to the vessel scheduled to load/ unload cargo that can be handled in adverse weather condition also.
As a consequence, the berth-productivity had remained mostly unchanged throughout the month of July 2022 which had witnessed several prolonged spells of intense rain.
This has been possible with the whole hearted support and cooperation of Board Members, Officials, Employees, Workers, Unions of DPA Port Users & Stakeholders.
