“DPA’s Ro-Ro Ferry sets a new milestone in Indian Maritime Transport” : Sarbananda Sonowal

BHAVNAGAR : Hon’ble Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways- Shri Sarbananda Sonowal; Shri Bhartiben Shiyal, MPBhavnagar; Shri Rajesh Kumar Sinha, Addl Secretary Shipping; Shri Bhushan Kumar, Joint Secretary; Shri Sujeet Kumar, IAS, PS to Hon’ble MoPSW; Shri S.K.Mehta, IFS, Chairman-DPA & Shri Nandeesh Shukla, IRTS, Dy. Chairman-DPA; Shri Rahul Modi, Member National Shipping Board, visited this facility on accompanied by other senior dignitaries.

To reduce the travel time between Saurashtra and South Gujarat, under the vision of Hon’ble Prime Minister, DPA has developed new state-of-art Ro-Ro Terminal at Hazira (Surat). The new ferry voyage express is among the biggest Solar operated RoPax ferry in Asia as of now, which has a capacity of 600 passengers, 80 cars, 50 Bikes, 25 LCVs and more than 50 trucks.

Since its inauguration on 8th Nov’20 by Hon’ble PM, the RoPax ferry made nearly 1023 trips in which it has carried over 270614 passengers, 42319 Cars, 15492 Two wheeler & 24605 heavy trucks.

Ro-Ro Ferry services have also proved to be worthy, reliable and sustainable mode of Sea-Transport. In the 889 trips that it made this year, it has off loaded a substantial load of traffic from Gujarat’s Main highway NH 48. It thus saved 13,96,774 travel man hours, 40,09,839 Liters of Diesel which has led to reduction of 5,012 MT of net CO2 Emission.

The ferry is equipped with state-of-art infrastructure and covers the sea distance between Hazira & Ghogha very quickly in only 3.5 hours as compared to road travel of more than 8-10
