MERSIN : Mersin International Port (MIP) is increasingly taking on an orchestrating role for the import, export, and transit of cold chain commodities.
As a major seaport located in the east of the Mediterranean Sea, MIP is well-positioned to accommodate reefer traffic for the region. For example, bananas, frozen poultry, and fresh vegetables are imported via Türkiye to neighbouring countries, while citrus fruit growers from the Middle East export their high-quality lemons, oranges, and mandarins via Türkiye to Europe.
Inaugurated at the end of 2021, the new cold storage facility and its value-added service offerings (such as unstuffing and palletising) has enhanced MIP’s position as a major logistics center for reefer traffic in the Eastern Mediterranean Region.
Less than six months after starting the operations, MIP’s cold store is already utilised for more than 75 percent. It has a capacity of about 1,300 pallets and is available around the clock. As soon the reefers arrive, MIP unstuffs and palletises the goods, providing safe storage, and optimising haulage services.
MIP is also looking into adding an extra cold store feature into the MIP Mobile application. By maximising the warehouse experience and making the information flow more transparent, MIP’s customers can look forward to more visibility of their cargo flow and container conditions.
