AHMEDABAD : SYMCON Industries Pvt. Ltd., a new entrant in the field of manufacturing of ISO Shipping / Marine Container has set up their plant in Ahmedabad, which is the 1st such production facility in the western part of India, according to a company release.
China has been the leading manufacturer/supplier of ISO Marine Containers for over 5 decades and has been catering to over 90% of marine container requirements across the globe. Government of India under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi is emphasizing and encouraging the manufacture of every possible products’ locally under their various schemes and campaigns like ‘Make in India’, ‘Self Reliant India’ and ‘Vocal for Local’ at least to cater to the Indian market requirements, if not global.
However, due to various reasons not many companies have ventured into the manufacture of these ISO containers. Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) a PSU under Ministry of Railways had initially invited tenders for 6000 20’ Feet Containers and have placed order on new Indian manufacturers and have invited a tender recently for procurement of 10000 20’ Feet Containers and this too shall be distributed among successful local bidders thereby giving the confidence to local manufacturers about the Government’s intent and push to encourage MSME units to venture into the production of ISO marine containers, the release added.
Besides Government of India, many large private sector companies like Adani and DP World are also considering local manufacturers over Chinese companies and have placed large orders. Of course, India at the moment cannot catch-up with China in terms of volume but because of the availability of raw material locally from Indian steel companies, India has been able to reach an encouraging level as far as pricing is concerned and with increasing volumes it won’t be too far that Indian companies will be able to close the pricing gap with China, said the release.
“In line with the vision of honorable Prime Minister of India – “Self-Reliant India”, SYMCON has set up the production facility with an initial production capacity of over 2000 TEUs (Twenty Feet Equivalent Units) per annum and development works are on to enhance the capacity to over 4000 TEUs per annum by the 1st quarter of next year. We have received an overwhelming response from potential buyers and classification society to our production facility and we would like to thank our team and all the stake holders who contributed in setting up the facility”said Mr. Manoj Victor, Founder Director, SYMCON Industries Pvt. Ltd.
