India’s permission to use 30% biofuel blends on Indian vessels to accelarate decarbonisation in shipping industry

NEW DELHI : India has a permitted usage of 30% biofuel blends onboard Indian vessels, for reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from ships & other air pollutants such as Sulphur Oxides. This will accelarate decarbonisation in the shipping industry, as part of our journey to net-zero by 2070.

The use of biofuel blends is expected to play a crucial role in mitigating environmental impact from maritime activities, aligning with global efforts to transition towards cleaner energy sources. This regulation underlines India’s proactive stance in promoting sustainable practices within the maritime sector, ensuring a greener future for maritime transportation.
