MSC increases freight rates from Africa to Europe

GENEVA : Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) has published new Freight All Kinds (FAK) increases for cargoes travelling from Africa to Europe.

The updated prices will be effective from 11 November.

Firstly, the Swiss carrier will implement a FAK rate increase for sailings from the ports of Durban, Coega and Cape Town in South Africa, with destinations to Antwerp, Rotterdam, London Gateway and Le Havre.

The newly formed prices which will be applied to all standard containers will be US$2,250 and US$1,850 per TEU and FEU, respectively.

In addition, the second-largest shipping line in the world will push up its FAK rates for shipments from Walvis Bay in the African town of Namibia to the aforementioned European ports.

Moreover, another FAK rate increase will be imposed by the Geneva-based liner operator to cargoes transferred from the ports of Mozambique, and particularly, from Maputo, Beira and Nacala, to the ports of Antwerp, Rotterdam and London Gateway.

The newly increased rates that will be applied to 20′ and 40′ standard containers will be US$2,450 and US$2,250, accordingly.
