OAKLAND : At its meeting on 9 March, the Oakland Board of Port Commissioners approved an environmental ordinance.

The Port legislation requires cargo-handling equipment (CHE) tenants to develop a strategy for converting CHE to zero emissions.

Tenants at the Port of Oakland have until 31 December 2023, to develop a cargo-handling equipment conversion plan.

Furthermore, the law will enable the Californian port to collaborate with its corporate partners in order to support an effective and timely shift to zero emissions.

The port stated that CHE conversion plans of port tenants will advance its goal, as described in the Port of Oakland Seaport Air Quality 2020 and Beyond Plan.
