Denmark and India launch green fuels alliance

NEW DELHI : Denmark and India have launched the Green Fuels Alliance India (GFAI), a collaborative initiative aiming to enhance joint efforts between the two nations in the sustainable energy sector, aligning with their shared global commitment to carbon neutrality.

Led by the Danish Embassy and Consulate General of Denmark in India, the alliance focuses on propelling the Green Fuels sector, particularly Green Hydrogen, by fostering innovation, collaboration, and partnerships among Danish industries and their Indian counterparts.

The primary goal of GFAI is to drive sustainable energy development in India by creating an ecosystem that encourages collaboration among businesses, government entities, research institutions, and financial stakeholders from both countries. Nine leading Danish organisations, including Maersk, Topsoe and Danfoss, have already pledged their commitment as founding members, with the GFAI advisory board comprising entities such as India Hydrogen Alliance and the Danish Energy Agency.

This announcement coincides with India’s ambitious push to achieve carbon neutrality by 2070, while Denmark, ranking first in the global Climate Performance Ranking 2024, is on track to achieve carbon neutrality by 2050. GFAI reflects the activities outlined in the Green Strategic Partnership (GSP), a 2020 agreement between India and Denmark aimed at fulfilling their ambitious climate targets.
