Tripura positioned as Gateway to Southeast Asia via Chittagong Port : Manik Saha

AGARTALA : Tripura Chief Minister Shri Manik Saha outlined the northeastern state’s strategic role as a gateway not only to Southeast Asian nations but to numerous others through the utilization of Chittagong Port in Bangladesh. With Dhaka’s approval for India to access Chittagong Port via South Tripura’s Sabroom sub-division and the imminent inauguration of Maitri Setu facilitating cross-border movement, Saha emphasized the transformative impact on business and trade opportunities.

Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony for the redevelopment of Agartala railway station, Shri Saha highlighted Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s virtual inauguration of various projects nationwide, including the redevelopment of 554 stations. He underscored Tripura’s access to Chittagong Port opening avenues beyond Southeast Asian nations, leveraging connectivity via the Bay of Bengal to benefit the entire northeastern region.

Shri Saha also spotlighted the Indo-Bangla railway project linking Bangladesh’s Gangasagar station with Agartala railway station, emphasizing successful trial runs and the ensuing benefits for the state’s populace. Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Social Empowerment, Kumari Pratima Bhoumik, echoed Saha’s sentiments, lauding the Modi government’s commitment to enhancing connectivity.

Kumari Bhoumik highlighted the inclusion of three railway stations – Agartala, Kumarghat, and Udaipur – in the Amrit Bharat station scheme, aimed at providing world-class facilities. She emphasized the significant investment of Rs 96.60 crore for the redevelopment of these stations, further underscoring the transformative potential of the Indo-Bangla rail link, poised to drastically reduce travel time and spur trade, business, and investment in the northeastern state.
