Paradip Port delivers 100 MMT cargo throughput for 8th year in succession
PARADIP : Paradip Port emerging as a coastal shipping hub of the country, has clocked a staggering 100.13 MMT cargo throughput milestone on Tuesday. The Port has once again repeated the feat by crossing the 100 MMT mark, 8th year, in succession and achieved the figure on December 9 in the current fiscal.
Notably, in FY 2023-24, the coveted mark of 100 MMT was achieved on December 18, 2023. The record was achieved in 9 days in advance i.e. in 253 days in current fiscal against 262 days in last financial year.
Thus this century is the fastest by PPA, in the history of Indian Major Ports, in spite of huge market challenges like drop in export Iron Ore demand and thermal coal.
The Port is poised to set an all time record cargo handling of 150 MMT in the current fiscal.
Paradip Port source said various system improvement measures, introduced by the Port during this year, fuelled growth. The Outbound Iron Ore and Pellet has shown 2.23 percent growth in comparison to previous fiscal. The Coastal Thermal Coal handling constitutes more than 30 percent of total cargo volume handled at the Port and it has shown 3.57 percent growth.
Similarly, containerised cargo volume has grown by 123.09 percent and Gypsum & flux volume has surged by 26.55 percent Y-o-Y in the current fiscal. Thus Paradip Port is emerging as a coastal shipping hub of the country.
