NEW DELHI : In a significant move to bridge the skill gap in India’s logistics and supply chain sector, Blue Ocean Corporation, the world leader in supply chain training and consulting, has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Integrated Learning in Management University. This strategic partnership will see Blue Ocean’s Logistics and Supply Chain Skill Development Programme, aligned with the Foundations Course from Association for Supply Chain Management (ASCM), integrated into IILM University curriculum. Dr. Sathya Menon, Group CEO of Blue Ocean Corporation, and Prof. (Dr.) Taruna Gautam, Vice Chancellor of IILM University signed the MoU on the sidelines of an official ceremony at the university campus in Greater Noida on December 3, 2024. The collaboration marks a milestone in the efforts to equip Indian students with the essential skills and knowledge needed to excel in the rapidly expanding logistics industry, which is projected to grow from $317.3 billion to $484 billion by 2029.

This collaboration not only offers a comprehensive understanding of logistics management and advanced supply chain strategies, but also provides participants with an internationally recognized certificate from the USA. This certification adds significant value in the current job market, as many multinational corporations (MNCs) are looking to invest in India and are actively seeking skilled professionals with global certifications. The inclusion of such qualifications strengthens the employability and career prospects for graduates, positioning them as leaders in the growing logistics industry.

“India’s logistics sector is undergoing a transformation, and this collaboration will ensure that the next generation of professionals is equipped with the advanced skills required to drive that change. By integrating our program into IILM’s curriculum, we are laying the foundation for a new era of logistics excellence. This is just the beginning of our mission to shape a smarter, more efficient logistics future for India”, said Dr. Sathya Menon, the Group CEO of Blue Ocean Corporation.

Despite the positive developments, India’s logistics and supply chain industry is grappling with several critical challenges, including high logistics costs which currently accounts of around 16% of GDP, inefficiencies in supply chain operations, lack of skilled professionals, and the need for digital transformation. These issues stand as a hindrance to the country’s ability to fully capitalize on its growing market and global trade opportunities. In response to these challenges, Blue Ocean Corporation has designed its programs to equip the next generation of supply chain leaders with the knowledge, skills, and strategic insights required to drive change. Through its partnership with IILM University, Blue Ocean aims to deliver world-class logistics and supply chain education that addresses these pressing needs, while fostering a culture of innovation and efficiency in the sector.

The ASCM Foundations Course, which forms the core of this program, has been meticulously crafted to align with India’s National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and is designed to address the evolving demands of the logistics and supply chain industry. The course adopts an experiential learning approach, utilizing real-life examples and practical applications to ensure students gain hands-on experience in tackling the real-world challenges that businesses face today. This is particularly important in a country like India, where supply chain inefficiencies and fragmented processes are persistent hurdles. By offering a holistic curriculum that covers everything from procurement and logistics to operations and quality assurance, the course ensures students gain a comprehensive understanding of the supply chain ecosystem, preparing them to tackle these multifaceted issues head-on.

“We are pleased to partner with Blue Ocean Corporation in this strategic initiative”, said Prof. (Dr.) Taruna Gautam, Vice Chancellor of IILM University. “IILM has always been committed to offering innovative, industry-relevant programs, and integrating Blue Ocean’s Logistics and Supply Chain Skill Development Programme into our curriculum will significantly enhance our students’ learning experience, empowering them to become leaders in the logistics industry”, she added.

Blue Ocean Corporation’s impact extends far beyond its educational offerings. The company is proud to have built a global alumni network of over 300,000 professionals, many of whom are now industry leaders in logistics and supply chain management across the world. This network proves Blue Ocean’s expertise in producing highly skilled, knowledgeable, and capable professionals who are transforming global supply chains.

This partnership is a significant step in Blue Ocean’s ongoing mission to contribute to the growth and development of India’s logistics industry. With logistics costs being a major focus for both the Indian government and industry stakeholders, Blue Ocean is committed to addressing these challenges by equipping professionals with the necessary tools to drive operational efficiency and reduce costs in logistics operations with various active government-led initiatives like Gatishakthi, National Logistics Policy etc, Indian government is highly focused on strengthening the logistics sector of the country. The Logistics and Supply Chain Skill Development program’s introduction at IILM’s campuses in Noida, along with Blue Ocean’s ongoing operations in cities such as Delhi, Pune, Kochi, and Hyderabad, marks the beginning of a broader mission to elevate India’s logistics capabilities.

This strategic partnership sets a strong precedent for the future of India’s logistics and supply chain sector by equipping the next generation with the essential skills and knowledge to meet the challenges of this evolving industry. Through this Memorandum of Understanding, both the organizations contribute to the collective effort of strengthening the logistics sector, addressing the growing skill gap, and helping India’s supply chain professionals stay at the forefront of global advancements. As the logistics industry continues to play a central role in the nation’s economic growth, the inclusion of such programs in educational frameworks could further drive innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainable practices in the sector.
