The 2nd IWDC Meeting : Viksit Inland Waterways for Viksit Bharat

KAZIRANGA : The 2nd Inland Waterways Development Council (IWDC) meeting was held at World Heritage Site Kaziranga in Assam in presence of Union Minister for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Sarbananda Sonowal, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, MoS Shri Shantanu Thakur, and other Ministers, MPs & representatives from more than 19 states and UTs.

Hon’ble PM Shri Narendra Modi ji has transformed inland waterways as the new routes of prosperity. India’s rich riverine ecosystem and waterbodies hold huge potential that can push the nation’s economic growth. The IWDC 2025 reiterated the spirit of Team India as we pledged to work together towards a Viksit Bharat.

During the event, the Ministry announced various development projects for  Jammu and Kashmir including jetties for river cruise tourism and urban water transportation ecosystem in River Jhelum, repair of Chhatabal weir for proper navigation and operationalization of River Chenab and River Ravi for waterway tourism.
