MSC launches feeder service connecting Vizhinjam Transshipment Terminal and Haldia Dock Complex

THIRUVANANTHPURAM : MSC has launched a feeder service connecting Vizhinjam Transshipment Terminal and Haldia Dock Complex of SMP Kolkata, reducing dependence on Colombo Port for Kolkata/Haldia trade.

The ‘Haldia Shuttle’ service, operating every ten days, represents the first feeder service between an Indian gateway port and the Vizhinjam transshipment port. This strategic move comes after India’s investment in a transshipment facility to reduce reliance on Colombo port for container transit. Additionally, the service will include a stop at Paradip Port, further bolstering connectivity and trade facilitation.

Notably, the MSC feeder service is eligible for a notable concession in vessel-related charges at Haldia Dock Complex. This concession, applicable for two years, offers discounts based on the number of twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU’s) loaded per call, incentivizing higher container volumes and promoting efficient operations.
