JNPA commemorates 76th Republic Day with patriotism and recognition of Bravery

MUMBAI : The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority – India’s Best Performing Port, celebrated the 76th Republic Day with great enthusiasm and pride at JNPA. The event witnessed Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman, JNPA and CMD, VPPL as the chief guest of the Republic Day event. The celebration commenced with the arrival of the Chief Guest who hoisted the national flag, followed by the National Anthem. The Chief Guest then inspected the parade, showcasing the discipline and commitment of the CISF JNPA Unit.

In his Republic Day Address Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS, Chairman, JNPA and CMD, VPPL, said, “On this Republic Day, we celebrate the strength of our democratic values, unity, and the relentless spirit of service. It is a moment to reflect on our progress, and at JNPA, we are committed to contributing to India’s growth on the global stage. Recently, we had the honour of welcoming the Hon’ble Minister of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal, who inaugurated several transformative projects at JNPA, further strengthening our infrastructure and capacity.”

“As I mentioned during my Independence Day speech, the establishment of a new school with international standards is a significant step forward. I am pleased to share that just recently, we had the privilege of witnessing the groundbreaking ceremony of this school, conducted by the Hon’ble Minister himself. This school will serve as a beacon of education for the future, reflecting our commitment to building a better tomorrow for the next generation,” he added.

The event also included the felicitation of nine JNPA and CISF personnel who saved the lives of travellers on a boat on December 18, 2024, highlighting their bravery and selflessness. This was followed by a thrilling dog show and rifle shooting demonstration by the CISF JNPA Unit, which enthralled the audience.
Adding to the festive spirit, students from JNPA schools presented vibrant cultural performances, celebrating India’s rich heritage and diversity. JNPA’s Republic Day celebration reinforced its commitment to national service and recognised the efforts of individuals who uphold its values of courage, integrity, and dedication.

About JNPA :

The Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) is one of the premier container-handling ports in India. Since its inception on May 26, 1989, JNPA has transformed from a bulk cargo terminal into the premier container port in the country.

Currently, JNPA operates five container terminals – NSFT, NSICT, NSIGT, BMCT and APMT. The Port also has a Shallow Water Berth for general cargo. A Liquid Cargo Terminal present at the JNPA Port is managed by the BPCL-IOCL consortium. Additionally, the newly constructed coastal berth links other Indian ports and facilitates enhancing the traffic of coastal containers.

Nestled across 277 hectares of land, JNPA also operates a meticulously designed multi-product SEZ, with state-of-the-art infrastructure, to boost export-oriented industries in India.

JNPA is also developing an all-weather, deep-draft, greenfield port at Vadhvan, in Maharashtra. It is poised to be among the top 10 ports globally and will be 100% green port since its inception.
