Europe-Asia Intermodal Logistics Forum took place in Duisburg with the support of Türkiye’s first intermodal terminal Railport and duisport

IZMIR : Arkas Holding Port and Terminal Operators Group continues to showcase its new investment, Railport – Türkiye’s first intermodal terminal. Located in Kocaeli Kartepe, Railport will greatly contribute to the country’s domestic and international trade. The group is presenting this development to global industry players. At the Europe-Asia Intermodal Logistics Forum, organized by RDL Group in Duisburg on March 5-6, 2025, a conference was conducted to discuss the details of Railport, a collaboration between Arkas Holding and duisport, along with the future of rail transport and its potential benefits for the logistics sector.

The global importance of Railport highlighted

During the Europe-Asia Intermodal Logistics Forum, hosted in Duisburg with the support of Railport and duisport, Railport General Manager Fatih Yilmazkarasu shared insights into Railport and industry trends in the session titled “Ports: The Logistics Hub of Europe and the Gateway to Asia.” The session covered key topics such as the expected growth in global trade between 2030 and 2040, shifting trade dynamics, the EU Green Deal, and Türkiye’s adaptation process, while also showcasing the Middle Corridor’s potential in transportation. Furthermore, Railport’s crucial location at the heart of the Iron Silk Road was highlighted, emphasizing Türkiye’s role as a vital trade bridge between the Far East and Europe via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars Railway Line and its contribution to the EU Green Deal’s goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2053.

Railport pioneers a first in Türkiye

Railport is set to revolutionize intermodal terminal operations, becoming the new gateway for secure, fast and sustainable trade as it is established in Kocaeli Kartepe, the heart of Turkish industry. With a total terminal area of 265,000 square meters, Railport will have an annual capacity to handle 360,000 TEU, 1.5 million tons of general cargo, 125,000 trailer units and 122,000 CEU finished vehicles. It will also feature a 1,000-square-meter hazardous cargo storage facility, four cranes, six stackers and a fully equipped modern infrastructure to meet industry needs.
