New Expressway: 22-hour journey will be completed in just 10 hours, new expressway is about to open
NEW DELHI : The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is set to drastically reduce travel time and improve connectivity across six states.
A significant development in India’s infrastructure is nearing completion as the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, India’s longest expressway at 1,380 kilometers continues to open in phases. A major section near Kota in Rajasthan has now made it possible for commuters to travel from Gurugram (Haryana) to Vadodara (Gujarat) in just 10 hours, a journey that typically takes 20 to 22 hours. The expressway, designed for speeds up to 120 kmph, promises substantial savings in time and fuel. With a projected cost of approximately ₹95,000 crore, the project spans six states: Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and Maharashtra. When fully operational, the total stretch of 1,386 km will surpass all other highways in India in terms of length and modernity.
Beyond speed and connectivity, the expressway is being lauded for its emphasis on eco-friendly construction. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has adopted green technologies and implemented special infrastructure to protect wildlife, especially near the Mukundra Hills Tiger Reserve. This includes dedicated animal corridors, tunnels, and noise barriers aimed at preserving the natural environment.
