BANJUL (GAMBIA) : The Gambia Ports Authority (GPA) has achieved a significant milestone in its journey towards smart, data-driven port operations with the successful implementation and official launch of the Port Management Information System (PMIS), developed by Prodevelop. A recent closing ceremony attended by key stakeholders has marked a new chapter in port digitalization and operational excellence.

Led by Prodevelop—the expert in port digital solutions with a track record of digitizing over 200 ports and terminals worldwide—the PMIS system, known as Posidonia, went live on April 3, 2025, after a six-month deployment process. It now seamlessly manages core functions such as port calls, cargo handling, port services, invoicing, and electronic document submissions, placing GPA among regional ports equipped with modern, efficient port management tools.

GPA Managing Director, Ousman M. Jobarteh, emphasized the transformational impact of this project. “This system is already changing how we operate. With real-time analytics, automated workflows, and improved stakeholder coordination, Port of Banjul is positioning itself for increased trade efficiency and international competitiveness,” he stated.

Prodevelop’s Deputy CRO, Christophe Joubert, showcased the platform’s key features, including future integration capabilities with ERP systems, Port Community Systems (PCS), and potential Vessel Traffic Service (VTS). The project’s implementation involved close collaboration with GPA’s IT team, adopting a phased approach supported by AWS infrastructure, diagnostics, training, and continuous feedback.

Captain Kulay Manneh, Director of Harbours, highlighted the strategic importance: “This is just the beginning. PMIS will enable us to optimize port calls, improve safety, and generate valuable insights. We are committed to embracing technological change for sustainable growth.”

Ousman Jammeh, GPA Director of Information Technology provided a technical overview of the five-phase implementation process and project involvement of IT department, weekly support meetings and active user feedback, helping to ensure a smoother transition.
