The high-profile event, scheduled to begin at 12:00 noon, will be graced by Maharashtra Chief Minister Shri Devendra Fadnavis, and Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Shantanu Thakur, underscoring the strategic importance of this mega infrastructure project. The inauguration will also witness the august presence of:

  • Shri Mahesh Baldi – Member of Legislative Assembly, Uran Constituency
  • Shri Unmesh Sharad Wagh, IRS – Chairperson, JNPA & CMD, VPPL
  • Shri Ong Kim Pong – Group CEO, PSA International Pte Ltd

India’s Largest Container Terminal Set to Go Live

With the completion of Phase-II, BMCT will become India’s largest standalone container terminal, boosting its annual handling capacity to an impressive 4.8 million TEUs. The expansion includes a 2,000-metre quay length, six deep-draft berths, 24 super post-Panamax quay cranes, and 72 advanced Rubber-Tyred Gantry (RTG) cranes.

Located at Jawaharlal Nehru Port (JNPA) — the country’s busiest container gateway — PSA Mumbai’s enhanced capabilities will enable faster vessel turnaround, larger ship handling, and more efficient cargo operations.

Enhanced Multimodal Connectivity

The terminal is fully equipped with Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC)-compatible rail facilities, allowing seamless cargo movement to India’s hinterlands. By enabling faster transshipment and improved logistics efficiency, BMCT Phase 2 is set to significantly reduce turnaround times and logistics costs for exporters and importers.

A Major Leap Towards Green Port Infrastructure

PSA Mumbai’s Phase 2 integrates several sustainability-focused innovations, including energy-efficient electric RTG cranes, renewable energy adoption, and green concrete construction. These measures are expected to reduce carbon emissions by approximately 69,000 tonnes of CO₂ equivalents annually, reinforcing PSA International’s commitment to building smart and sustainable ports.

Strategic Collaboration and Investment

BMCT represents the largest single foreign direct investment (FDI) in India’s port sector, with an overall project cost of ₹7,915 crore under a 30-year public-private partnership (PPP) between PSA International and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA).

The virtual participation of Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong highlights the deepening India–Singapore strategic partnership in maritime trade and infrastructure development.

Paving the Way for India’s Maritime Growth

With Phase 2 operational, PSA Mumbai is expected to redefine cargo handling efficiency, enhance supply chain resilience, and establish Mumbai as a gateway to global trade. The expansion aligns with the Government of India’s vision of strengthening the nation’s position as a leading hub for maritime commerce.
