PSA Halifax Welcomes Largest Container Vessel To Ever Call At a Canadian Port
CANADA : PSA Halifax welcomed CMA CGM Marco Polo, the largest container vessel to ever call at any Canadian port to date. With a total capacity of 16,022 TEUs, measuring at an impressive 396 metres in length and 53.6 metres wide, the vessel’s maiden call to the terminal adds capacity to the Ocean Alliance AWE3 service arriving direct from South Asia and China.
“Since 2015 when CMA CGM first brought the Columbus service to Halifax, we have had incredible support from our International Longshoreman’s Association (ILA) workforce, CN Rail, Atlantic Pilots, Halifax Port Authority and from the strength and depth of today’s Ocean Alliance partners,” said PSA Halifax’s CEO and Managing Director Jan Van Mossevelde.
“The arrival of CMA CGM Marco Polo signifies a milestone for PSA Halifax as a team – it is testament to the terminal’s capabilities and to the recent delivery of key infrastructure – taking Halifax forward together and recognising the efficiency and reliability of this deep-water Atlantic hub for our customers,” he added.
The maiden call of CMA CGM Marco Polo at PSA Halifax surpasses the previous record set by the terminal when it handled the 15,000-TEU CMA CGM Brazil in 2020
