AI-Led upskilling is building a future-ready talent pipeline for the global media industry: Ashwini Vaishnaw

NEW DELHI : Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Electronics & Information Technology, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw said in the AI Impact Summit 2026 that, Artificial Intelligence (AI)-led upskilling initiatives are playing a transformative role in building a future-ready talent pipeline for the global media and entertainment industry, positioning India as a key hub for digital innovation and creative excellence.

Addressing industry stakeholders, the Minister emphasized that rapid advancements in AI, data analytics, and immersive technologies are reshaping content creation, distribution, and audience engagement worldwide. He noted that equipping media professionals with AI-driven capabilities is essential to ensure competitiveness, ethical standards, and sustainable growth in the evolving digital ecosystem.

Strengthening Skills for the Digital Era
Shri Vaishnaw highlighted that AI-powered tools are increasingly being integrated into newsroom operations, film production, animation, gaming, advertising, and digital broadcasting. Structured upskilling programmes are enabling professionals to leverage:

Generative AI for content development and post-production

Data analytics for audience insights and personalized content delivery

Automation tools for editing, subtitling, and multilingual adaptation

AI-driven visual effects and immersive storytelling technologies

He underscored that these initiatives are not only enhancing productivity but also opening new employment avenues in areas such as AI-assisted journalism, virtual production, digital content strategy, and platform analytics.

Focus on Responsible and Ethical AI
The Minister reiterated the importance of responsible AI adoption, stressing the need for transparency, data protection, bias mitigation, and safeguards against misinformation. He emphasized that skill development frameworks must incorporate ethical guidelines to ensure technology augments human creativity rather than replaces it.

Industry–Academia Collaboration
Highlighting collaborative efforts, Shri Vaishnaw pointed to growing partnerships between media organizations, technology companies, and academic institutions to design specialized certification courses, innovation labs, and AI-focused training modules. These initiatives aim to bridge skill gaps and prepare professionals for emerging roles in the global media value chain.

He noted that India’s strong digital infrastructure, expanding startup ecosystem, and large pool of creative talent provide a solid foundation for becoming a global leader in AI-enabled media services.

The Minister stated that AI-led upskilling will strengthen India’s position in the global media landscape by enhancing export potential in animation, visual effects, gaming, and digital content services. By nurturing a technologically adept workforce, the country is preparing to meet the growing international demand for high-quality, tech-enabled media solutions.
