SSI and PipeCloud partner to strengthen ‘digital thread’ between ship design and workshop execution
VICTORIA, BC: SSI, a leader in digital shipbuilding solutions, and PipeCloud, a provider of advanced pipe prefabrication and workshop execution software, today announced a new partnership and integration designed to connect shipbuilding engineering data directly with pipe spool fabrication.
The combined solution links SSI’s digital shipbuilding platform with PipeCloud’s pipe prefabrication capabilities, enabling shipyards to create a more complete digital thread from design and engineering through to workshop execution.
While many shipyards have advanced digital capabilities in design and engineering, pipe fabrication often remains disconnected, relying on spreadsheets, paper-based tracking and manual data re-entry.
The SSI and PipeCloud partnership addresses this gap by connecting structured shipbuilding information from 3D CAD environments directly to pipe prefabrication planning, automation and production control.
This enables shipbuilders to reduce manual handoffs between engineering and production, replace fragmented spreadsheets and paper-based workflows, improve planning accuracy and execution of pipe spools, increase visibility into work in progress across the shop floor and support more scalable, digital-first outfitting processes.
SSI provides the core shipbuilding data environment, including design, engineering and production information. PipeCloud extends that data into pipe prefabrication workflows, including planning, CNC preparation, nesting, work orders, production tracking and workshop execution.
Unlike general-purpose manufacturing tools, the SSI and PipeCloud solution is designed specifically for naval and commercial shipyards. It addresses the complexity of piping systems and the need for tight coordination between engineering and production teams.
By connecting upstream shipbuilding data with downstream execution, the partnership strengthens SSI’s open platform approach and extends its value into critical manufacturing workflows.
“Shipbuilders have made significant progress digitizing design and engineering, but critical workflows like pipe fabrication are still too often disconnected,” said Denis Morais, CEO of SSI. “Our partnership with PipeCloud extends the digital twin into the workshop, creating a more complete digital thread from design intent through production. This gives shipyards the ability to reduce manual effort, improve accuracy, and ultimately build with greater confidence and control.”
“Pipe fabrication is where small inefficiencies quickly turn into real production delays,” said Jarno Soinila, CEO of PipeCloud. “By connecting SSI’s engineering data directly with our prefabrication and workshop execution environment, shipyards can move from fragmented processes to a more automated, production-ready workflow. The result is faster planning, better visibility, and a more efficient pipe shop.”
