Adani Ports explores participation in ₹76,200 crore Vadhvan Port Project
AHMEDABAD : Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone (APSEZ) is exploring participation in the ₹76,200-crore Vadhvan Port project in Maharashtra, a greenfield development near Palghar that is poised to emerge as one of India’s largest container hubs with a planned capacity of 24.5 million TEUs.
The project is being executed by Vadhvan Port Project Ltd, a joint venture between Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB). In the first phase, the port is expected to handle 6.85 million TEUs by 2030, with capacity rising to 23.2 million TEUs in the subsequent phase.
APSEZ said mega projects such as Vadhvan are critical to achieving India’s long-term target of 10 billion tonnes of port capacity by 2047. With an ambition to secure a 33% share of the market, the company sees its participation in Vadhvan as a natural fit.
Alongside this, APSEZ is also scaling up capacity at its existing ports including Mundra, Hazira, Gangavaram, Vizhinjam and Colombo, with a sharper focus on the rapidly growing container cargo business.
