CAIRO : The Suez Canal Container Terminal (SCCT), operated by APM Terminals and a pivotal Maersk hub, is set to receive its third shipment of state-of-the-art ship-to-shore (STS) cranes, a development poised to significantly bolster the terminal’s operational capabilities. This enhancement is a key component of the upcoming Gemini Cooperation with Hapag-Lloyd, aimed at upgrading East-West trade routes through faster, more reliable, and sustainable operations.

Situated strategically in Egypt, SCCT’s reinforcement with advanced cranes underscores its crucial role in global trade, aligning with Egypt’s increasing prominence in the maritime sector. This upgrade emphasizes the strategic importance of SCCT in facilitating smoother and more efficient trade flows across essential shipping lanes, reinforcing global trade connections and supporting Egypt’s ambition to become a significant entity in the international maritime industry.

The STS cranes scheduled for delivery are equipped with cutting-edge features to improve the terminal’s efficiency and capacity. These include a 72-meter outreach, 56-meter lifting height, and capabilities for twin-lift operations up to 65 tons, with tandem lifting potential of up to 105 tons. Such specifications are designed to enable SCCT to accommodate larger vessels and handle greater volumes of cargo, which is vital for maintaining competitive edge in the fast-evolving global shipping landscape.

The expected arrival of these cranes is part of a broader effort to fortify SCCT’s position as a key logistics hub, enhancing its contribution to the Gemini network. This network is anticipated to open new avenues for trade and economic expansion in the region.

The initiative reflects the collaborative spirit of APM Terminals and its partners, highlighting a commitment to driving innovation and excellence in maritime logistics. With the integration of these high-performance cranes, SCCT is gearing up to set new benchmarks in operational standards and efficiency, paving the way for a more interconnected and economically robust future in maritime trade.

This crane delivery marks another significant step in SCCT’s journey toward becoming a central facilitator of economic growth and innovation in the region, reinforcing its status as a crucial node in the global trade network.
