APM Terminals Pipavav welcomes Vertom Rita : A proud ‘Make in India’ milestone
PIPAVAV : APM Terminals Pipavav announce the arrival of MV Vertom Rita on its maiden voyage earlier this month—a vessel that embodies India’s vision of maritime excellence and sustainability. Built by Chowgule Shipyard at Mormugao, Goa, under the prestigious ‘Make in India’ initiative, this 5,200 MT capacity ship is owned by Vertom Group and marks a milestone in India’s growing shipbuilding capabilities, according to a release.
The Vertom Rita is more than a vessel—it’s a changemaker. Powered by a hybrid system that combines fuel and electric energy, it reduces fuel consumption by 50%, significantly cutting greenhouse gas emissions. Its onboard innovations, including seawater-to-drinking-water systems, eliminate plastic dependency, further cementing its role as a pioneer in sustainable shipping.
Carrying a full shipment of guar destined for Scandinavian markets. The vegetable protein is produced by Greenfields Derivatives Pvt Ltd and grown in water-scarce deserts without deforestation, as an alternative to animal-based such as fishmeal in aqua feed.
At APM Terminals Pipavav, we are proud to be the port of choice for this groundbreaking voyage. Aligned with India’s “Make in India” and sustainability goals, our state-of-the-art infrastructure, operational excellence, and environmentally conscious practices ensure seamless handling of advanced vessels like the Vertom Rita, said the release.
We remain committed to driving sustainable trade and bolstering India’s position as a global shipping leader. Together with our partners, we continue to push boundaries, making global trade more efficient, responsible, and environmentally sustainable, the release highlighted.
