BCBA and JNPA launch Groundbreaking Vadhavan Port Training Initiative to transform Careers in Customs Clearance

MUMBAI : In a landmark event that promises to reshape the future of customs clearance and import-export operations in India, the Brihanmumbai Customs Brokers Association (BCBA) in collaboration with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) recently unveiled an innovative training program focused on preparing the next generation of customs professionals for the upcoming Vadhavan Port. The prestigious launch ceremony, held at the BCBA Classroom, witnessed an unprecedented gathering of industry leaders and government officials.

The event was graced by the august presence of JNPA Port Chairman, Shri Unmesh Wagh, IRS, who delivered an inspiring keynote address highlighting the transformative potential of the Vadhavan Port project. Joining him were distinguished JNPA officials including Smt. Ambika Singh and Mr. Rajeev Sinha, Advisor, JNPA and VPPL, who shared valuable insights into the port’s development trajectory and its significance for India’s maritime sector.

The BCBA delegation was led by President Sanjeev Harale, who emphasized the association’s commitment to skill development and professional excellence. Senior Vice President Paresh Thakker, Vice Presidents Vinayak Apparaj and Ganpat Korde, along with Hon. Secretary Nirav Thakkar and Jt. Secretary Tej Contractor, Managing Committee members Sanjay Shingote, Maruti Gadge, and Prashant Popat, Training committee members Vyom Boda and Parthaav Desai ,represented the association’s leadership, demonstrating the unified vision behind this pioneering initiative, Mr. Viren Dayal, pillar of BCBA Training for over 25 years 

The training program, meticulously designed to equip young professionals with comprehensive knowledge of import-export processes, customs clearance, documentation, and compliance requirements, was presented by Chairperson of Training and Skills Development  Committee – Chaitaly Mehta. The curriculum overview revealed an intensive 4-week, 100-hour course structure divided into three strategic phases, covering everything from basic concepts to advanced practical applications.

“This is not just a training program; it’s a gateway to thousands of career opportunities that will emerge with the development of Vadhavan Port,” said President Sanjeev Harale. “We are creating a skilled workforce ready to meet the demands of India’s rapidly expanding maritime infrastructure.”

The event began with an electrifying recap of Vadhavan Port’s journey and the immense opportunities it presents for aspiring customs professionals. The audience, comprising industry stakeholders and potential trainees, was captivated by the details delivered by JNPA & BCBA.

JNPA Port Chairman Shri Unmesh Wagh, IRS, in his address, emphasized the strategic importance of Vadhavan Port in strengthening India’s position in global trade. “This training initiative by BCBA is perfectly aligned with our vision of creating a world-class port ecosystem supported by highly skilled professionals,” he stated. “The synergy between infrastructure development and human resource capacity building is essential for realizing the full potential of Vadhavan Port.”

The program, inaugurated today  will be conducted at the BCBA office in Nariman Point, Mumbai. It offers comprehensive support to participants, including travel assistance, meals, and hands-on practical training. The course is specifically designed to benefit young freshers from Palghar and areas surrounding the upcoming Vadhavan Port.

The training curriculum is structured in three phases spread across 4 weeks and will include everything from Orientation to import-export concepts, customs operations to detailed understanding of documentation, systems, and procedures with practical training on Laptops and preparation for job placements.

At the end of the course, there will be an evaluation of the students by way of an exam and those students who have passed will be presented with a certificate. 

As the event concluded with a standing ovation, the atmosphere was charged with optimism and anticipation. The JNPA-BCBA Vadhavan Port Training initiative stands as a testament to the power of public-private partnerships in creating sustainable career pathways and supporting India’s maritime ambitions.
