BILASPUR : BEML Limited, a leading Public Sector Undertaking under the Ministry of Defence, has laid the foundation stone for its upcoming Central Warehousing Centre in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh. This state-of-the-art logistics facility is being developed as a strategic hub to enhance supply chain system, reduce operational costs, and meet the evolving needs of customers across BEML’s key verticals.

The groundbreaking ceremony was inaugurated by BEML Limited’s CMD Shantanu Roy in presence of South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL) CMD Harish Duhan, along with BEML’s Director (Finance), Anil Jerath, and BEML’s Director (Mining & Construction), Sanjay Som, accompanied by senior officials from both organisations.

According to the company, the upcoming Centralised Warehousing Centre in Bilaspur is designed to significantly enhance customer service by enabling the dispatch of critical spare parts within 24 to 48 hours of customer request. The facility will be fully digitalized, equipped with a bar code-based inventory management system to ensure real-time tracking, accurate material storage, and streamlined processing for faster and more efficient operations.

Located at the heart of India, the Bilaspur facility will play a critical role in strengthening BEML’s logistics network. Developed over 2.63 acres, the Centre is strategically positioned to serve major institutional customers including subsidiaries of Coal India, SAIL, NTPC, MOIL, Hindustan Copper Limited, and other key stakeholders. With average distances to major customer locations falling within approximately 510 kilometres, the warehouse ensures swift accessibility and efficient service delivery.

The establishment of this Central Warehousing Centre in Bilaspur is a strategic move towards building a more agile, responsive, and cost-effective supply chain. It reflects BEML’s continued commitment to operational excellence and enhanced customer service. With its central location and modern infrastructure, the facility will play a pivotal role in strengthening our logistics ecosystem and ensuring timely support to our valued customers across the country.

The Central Warehousing Centre is designed to optimize inventory management, enable faster turnaround of spare parts, and consolidate materials under a unified logistics framework. Its modern infrastructure will significantly reduce inter-depot transportation requirements and bring down associated costs. Existing depots will be rationalized to serve as emergency or consignment stores focused on breakdown maintenance, thereby creating a more agile and responsive support network.

By centralizing critical warehousing operations, BEML aims to improve manpower deployment, streamline workflows, and elevate service quality. The facility will feature modern storekeeping practices, advanced packaging and forwarding systems, and robust quality control mechanisms—all aimed at delivering timely, reliable, and high-standard services to customers.

“This milestone marks another step in BEML’s ongoing efforts to reinforce operational excellence and enhance customer-centricity, while supporting the broader vision of a self-reliant and industrially empowered India,” it added.
