CBIC Notifies Navi Mumbai and Jewar Airport as customs ports for import and export
NEW DELHI : The Ministry of Finance, through the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), issued Notification No. 15/2025-Customs (N.T.) dated March 24, 2025, announcing the inclusion of Navi Mumbai and Noida International Airport (Jewar) as notified customs ports for the unloading of imported goods and loading of export goods.
The notification amends the long-standing Notification No. 61/94-Customs (N.T.) dated November 21, 1994, by updating the customs port list under the powers conferred by Section 7(1)(a) read with Section 7(2) of the Customs Act, 1962.
As per the amendment:
- For the State of Maharashtra, under serial number 11, “Navi Mumbai” has been inserted to allow cargo operations.
- For the State of Uttar Pradesh, under serial number 16, “Noida International (Jewar)” has been added for similar purposes
- The new entries in the notification specify that both locations are now authorized for the “unloading of imported goods and the loading of export goods or any class of such goods.”
- This development marks a significant step in operationalizing two major infrastructure projects:
- Navi Mumbai, envisioned as a complementary port to Mumbai for easing maritime cargo congestion.
- Jewar Airport (Noida International Airport), which is rapidly emerging as a key international air cargo hub in northern India.
These additions are expected to boost trade efficiency, reduce logistics time and costs, and support the government’s broader goals under initiatives like ‘Gati Shakti’ and ‘Ease of Doing Business’.
The notification was signed by Supriya Chandran, Under Secretary, CBIC, and published in the Gazette of India: Extraordinary, Part II, Section 3(i).
