
CMA CGM’s new freight rates for shipments to the Red Sea and Middle East
MARSEILLE : CMA CGM, the French shipping giant, has announced new freight rate updates and the introduction of an Overweight Surcharge (OWS) for shipments from Northern European ports to regions including the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East, and the Red Sea. This policy adjustment is set to take effect from April 1 for the surcharges and from April 16 for the rate changes.
Effective April 1, CMA CGM will implement an Overweight Surcharge of USD 50 per 20-foot dry container on shipments exceeding 15 tons, including tare weight. This surcharge will apply to all ports in the Indian Subcontinent, the Middle East, the Arabian Gulf, and the Red Sea, reflecting the company’s strategy to manage transportation costs effectively amid varying cargo weights.
Moreover, starting April 16, CMA CGM will revise its freight rates for shipments from Northern Europe to these regions. The updated rates are set as follows: shipments to the Indian Subcontinent will see an increase of USD 1,000 per 20-foot container and USD 1,200 per 40-foot container. Routes to Arabian Gulf ports will experience a rate rise of USD 1,100 per 20-foot container and USD 1,200 per 40-foot container. Additionally, freight rates to Red Sea ports will escalate significantly by USD 1,900 per 20-foot container and USD 2,100 per 40-foot container.
