NEW DELHI: In a major step toward transforming India’s cement logistics landscape, Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) has signed a strategic agreement with UltraTech Cement Ltd. to transport bulk cement through specialized tank containers.

The partnership marks a first-of-its-kind initiative in the Indian logistics sector, aimed at redefining bulk cement transportation by shifting movement from road to rail. This modal shift is expected to bring significant gains in efficiency, reliability, and sustainability, aligning with India’s broader goal of promoting green and cost-effective logistics solutions.

The agreement was formally signed in New Delhi in the presence of Shri Sanjay Swarup, CMD, CONCOR, along with CONCOR Directors, Shri K.C. Jhanwar, MD, UltraTech Cement, and senior officials from both organizations.

Speaking on the occasion, CONCOR officials emphasized that the introduction of specialized tank containers for cement transport will open new avenues for bulk handling, reduce carbon emissions, and minimize road congestion. The move also supports the government’s vision to increase the share of rail in freight movement and promote multimodal logistics.

This strategic collaboration is expected to set a benchmark for the cement industry’s transition toward sustainable and efficient rail-based logistics, showcasing how industry partnerships can accelerate India’s logistics modernization.
