SHANGHAI : COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers held the naming ceremony for its largest LNG dual-fuel car carrier, the “Wenjingkou“, at the Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipyard. The vessel, with a capacity of 8600 car spaces, marks a significant milestone in both the green transition of the shipping industry and COSCO’s continuous commitment to innovation in logistics.

This state-of-the-art vessel is designed to meet the highest environmental standards, reducing carbon emissions by 27% compared to traditional fuel-powered ships. Equipped with the latest LNG dual-fuel propulsion system, it is also compliant with the latest environmental regulations set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

The “Wenjingkou” will be deployed on COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers’ European liner routes, significantly enhancing shipping capacity and helping to meet the growing demand for vehicle transport across major European ports. The vessel will depart from Shanghai on March 26, loaded with over 5,700 vehicles, including products from Chery, FAW, BYD, Yutong, and JAC.

In addition to its impressive carrying capacity, the vessel incorporates smart cargo-loading technology and a proprietary digital platform for real-time monitoring of cargo conditions, ensuring the safe transportation of both conventional and electric vehicles.

With the continuous growth of China’s automobile exports, reaching 5.86 million units in 2024 and over 910,000 units in the first two months of 2025, the demand for efficient and sustainable automotive logistics is stronger than ever. This new LNG-powered fleet not only supports China’s export efforts but also contributes to the global green shipping revolution.

This delivery is part of COSCO Shipping Specialized Carriers’ ongoing efforts to strengthen its fleet, with plans to expand to 26 vessels and 170,000 car spaces by 2025, positioning the company among the leaders in global automobile logistics.
