HAMBURG : China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC) debuted the world’s largest container ship at the SMM Hamburg Maritime Exhibition, unveiling GREEN SEALION 27500 with a box capacity of 27,500 TEUs.

The giant vessel, which received its Approval in Principle (AiP) certificate from the DNV classification society, is a dual-guel ship powered by LNG, meeting IMO Phase III carbon reduction standards and setting a benchmark for environment-friendly marine transport.

The ship obviously maximizes cargo capacity, but also features a highly optimized hull design to enhance fuel efficiency. GREAN SEALION 27500 can achieve zero emissions while docked, thanks to its integration with shore power systems.

Apart from the 27,500 TEU container vessel, the Chinese shipbuilder revealed a suite of the following innovative vessel designs:

  • GREEN SEALION 20000, which is a 20,000 TEU ammonia dual-fuel container ship, which represents a step forward in green technology by utilizing ammonia to reduce emissions.
  • GREEN SEALION 16000, which is a 16,000 TEU LNG dual-fuel container ship, designed with enhanced energy efficiency and a wide-body structure to optimize cargo space while reducing the environmental footprint.
  • Two advanced liquefied gas carriers, a 103,000 cubic meter Very Large Ethane Carrier (VLEC) and a 93,000 cubic meter Very Large Ammonia Carrier (VLAC). Both ships have been built for transporting LPG, ethane, and ammonia with state-of-the-art propulsion and energy-saving systems.
