Chennai Customs has issued Facility Circular No.52/2020 dated December 23, 2020 permitting self-sealed containers meant for exports from Chennai Port terminals to be cleared from CWC Madhavaram and ICD Tondiarpet up to January 31, 2021, in addition to the existing facility at CWC Tiruvottiyur.

In order to further ease the movement of containers to Chennai Port, the port management had detailed discussions with CONCOR and the terminals, and it was decided to encourage rail movement of export containers from the port’s extended gate at Tondiarpet to the port.

Accordingly, CONCOR will run daily shuttle service from its facility at Tondiarpet to Chennai Port, and has assured to ensure delivery of the containers received at its yard within 12 hours to Chennai Port. Facilities for generation of Shipping Bill, seal verification of containers, and issuance of other necessary documents like Form 13/EIR can also be completed at Tondiarpet extended gate. The CONCOR yard at Tondiarpet ICD has capacity to handle around 10,000 containers.

The two terminals situated inside Chennai Port viz. CCTPL and CITPL will issue the necessary documents (Form 13/EIR) to all the containers received at the extended gate at Tondiarpet and will facilitate vessel connectivity in time.

A communiqué advised the trade to make use of this facility and drop the export containers at the extended gate at Tondiarpet for onward movement to the port by rail.
