Deendayal Port crosses 100 MMT in cargo handling

Deendayal Port Trust has crossed 100 MMT in cargo handling on 18.2.2021. The Port handled 13.25 MMT of liquid cargo and 43.76 MMT of Dry cargo & containers at Kandla. It also handled 43.30 MMT at Vadinar (which includes transhipment), grossing a total of 100 MMT overall.
Major commodities handled by the Port are Crude Oil, Petroleum product, Coal, Salt, Edible Oil, Fertilizer, Sugar, Timber, Soya bean, Wheat. This major achievement was attributed to the user-friendly approach of DPT with the Shipping fraternity / stakeholders, with all major decisions usually taken in consultation with them.
The containerized cargo crossed 4.50 lakh TEU during this period. The port also handled 2682 ships till date.
The major cargo handled during the financial year 2020-21 (in lakh MTs) were:
Dry cargo at Kandla –
Coal: 150.04,
Containers: 72.14,
Fertilizers: 42.09,
Salt: 42.04,
Sugar: 31.11 &
Logs: 17.71.
Liquid cargo at Kandla:
Other liquids: 45.86,
POL: 43.41 &
Edible oil: 39.26
At Vadinar:
Crude oil: 39.25 and
POL (products): 83.52.
The Port is poised to handle around 115 MMT by the end of this fiscal
Concerted efforts and a series of positive initiatives taken by the Deendayal Port Administration have led to this success, in all spheres like efficiency, productivity, cost-effectiveness, transparency and Port User satisfaction under the able leadership of the Chairman, Shri S.K. Mehta IFS, and Shri Nandeesh Shukla, IRTS, Deputy Chairman.
