MUMBAI: The Directorate General of Shipping (DG Shipping) has issued a clarification dispelling rumours about a purported ban on foreign Certificates of Competency (CoCs). The maritime regulator confirmed that genuine seafarers holding valid certifications remain fully eligible to sail, urging stakeholders to disregard misleading information circulating on social media, informs a communique.

To streamline verification, DG Shipping has announced a 30-day validation window for the submission of relevant documents through Registered Recruitment and Placement Service Licence (RPSL) agencies. The verification process aims to ensure a transparent, rule-based framework that safeguards the careers of Indian seafarers, protects industry integrity, and aligns with international maritime standards.

DG Shipping has also warned against fraudulent practices and assured strict action against offenders. Seafarers and stakeholders have been advised to rely on official updates and avoid unverified sources of information.

The deadline for document submission is September 4, 2025. For queries, DG Shipping has provided dedicated email channels: [email protected] and [email protected].

This clarification comes amid growing concerns within the maritime community and reaffirms DG Shipping’s commitment to protecting the interests of genuine seafarers while maintaining India’s credibility in the global shipping industry.
