DG Shipping launches 24×7 Grievance Redressal Mechanism for Seafarers and their Families
MUMBAI: In a significant step towards strengthening welfare and support services for India’s maritime community, the Directorate General of Shipping has launched a dedicated 24×7 Grievance Redressal Mechanism aimed at providing timely assistance to seafarers and their families across the globe.
The newly introduced support system is designed to ensure faster response, transparent grievance tracking, and uninterrupted assistance for maritime stakeholders facing operational, professional, or emergency-related concerns. The initiative reflects DG Shipping’s continued commitment to enhancing the welfare ecosystem for Indian seafarers while ensuring that every grievance is heard and addressed promptly.
Under the initiative, seafarers and their families can now access round-the-clock assistance through multiple communication channels, including toll-free helplines, WhatsApp support, and email-based grievance resolution. The mechanism is expected to significantly improve accessibility and response efficiency, particularly during emergencies and maritime distress situations.
The Directorate has provided dedicated contact channels for domestic as well as international support. Seafarers within India can reach the toll-free helpline at 1800-889-7768, while those overseas, particularly in the United States, can access assistance through the international toll-free number +1-888-988-0256. In addition, WhatsApp support has been made available on +91 8655856830 for quick communication and updates.
For maritime casualty-related emergencies, DG Shipping has also activated a dedicated DGCOMM Casualty Mobile number — 8657549760 — exclusively for handling maritime casualty matters. Stakeholders can further seek support or submit grievances through official email channels including enavik.24×[email protected] and [email protected].
The launch of this integrated support mechanism underscores India’s growing focus on seafarer welfare, digital accessibility, and responsive maritime governance. As India continues to strengthen its position as a leading global maritime nation, initiatives such as these are expected to provide greater confidence and support to the country’s vast seafaring community.
