MUMBAI : The Directorate General of Shipping (DGS), under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), convened a high-level meeting with leading maritime stakeholders — Anglo Eastern, Lloyd’s Register (LR), and the Society for Gas as a Marine Fuel (SGMF) — to deliberate on the future of fuels in global and Indian shipping.

The discussions centred on advancing green, clean, and alternative energy solutions such as LNG, methanol, hydrogen, and ammonia, which are poised to redefine the global shipping landscape. The session aimed to foster collaboration and knowledge exchange between regulatory authorities, classification societies, and shipping companies to accelerate India’s transition toward low-carbon, energy-efficient, and sustainable maritime operations.

Experts from the participating organizations shared insights on emerging technologies, safety frameworks, fuel infrastructure readiness, and international best practices. The dialogue also addressed regulatory pathways and capacity-building initiatives required to support the adoption of next-generation marine fuels in India.

Through such strategic collaborations, DGS continues to lead India’s efforts in achieving IMO decarbonization targets and strengthening the country’s position as a key player in the global green shipping movement.

Together, we move closer to realizing India’s vision of a cleaner, smarter, and future-ready maritime industry.
