DLI gifts Bengaluru its largest integrated rail linked logistics park

The logistics industry of Bengaluru got a major boost with private container and terminal operator Distribution Logistics Infrastructure (DLI) commencing operations as a Private Freight Terminal (PFT) in the Bengaluru region. The Logistics Park, situated next to the industrial catchment area of Bengaluru off Hosur Road, handled its first container train last week, which was launched by Mr Ashok Kumar Verma, Divisional Railways Manager (DRM) of Bengaluru Division.

This Logistics Park of DLI, which has commenced operation, has been named DLI Anekal. It is being served by Maranayakahalli railway station, which has been constructed by DLI and dedicated to the Indian Railways network. The logistics facility shall provide cost and time-effective solutions to the Bengaluru industry, while ensuring support to the Government of India in its endeavour to reduce carbon footprint for a greener tomorrow, facilitate ease of doing business for the trade, and contribute towards achieving the $5 trillion economy target.

DLI, which is also a Category 1 private container train operator, carried tiles in its own container train from Morbi in Gujarat, a location which manufactures 90% of the tiles supplied nationally, offering cost-competitiveness compared to road not only to the tiles trade but the construction industry as a whole in Bengaluru region, said in a release.

Speaking on the occasion, DRM Mr Ashok Kumar Verma appreciated the investment made by DLI and stressed upon exploring opportunities for further movement of cargo by rail through DLI’s PFT considering its location and the cost advantage it offers to the trade being a rail-linked terminal.

The Logistics Park is ideally located next to South Bangalore, adjoining Electronics City, which houses heavy industries, and has easy access through Hosur Road and NICE Road to Bidadi and Mysore region. The Integrated Logistics Park is expected to cater not only to the industries located within Bengaluru, but will also reduce logistics cost for industries located next to Hosur, Krishnagiri, and other adjoining regions of Tamil Nadu including Coimbatore and Salem.

The facility, spread over 120 acres, is the much needed impetus for industry to have a single-stop solution for the entire gamut of manufacturing and trading goods involving but not limited to auto, steel, granite and retailing. With rail,  warehousing, open stock yards and all ancillary facilities having round-the-clock operations manned by two-tier security involving CCTV monitoring, truck parking area with driver rest rooms and canteen facilities, and 100% power back-up coupled with Administrative building, this Integrated Logistics Park is worth a visit and should soon be buzzing with logistics activities of major Industries, the release added.
