First ICAO Global Air Cargo Summit (IACS) highlights
TURKIYE : The session on Thursday at the First ICAO Global Air Cargo Summit (IACS) highlighted the fascinating journey of flowers from Africa reaching markets across the globe within just 24 hours—a testament to how logistics, technology, and collaboration can achieve remarkable speed and efficiency.
Inspiring to see how flowers from Africa are reaching global markets within 24 hours. A true example of what’s possible when logistics, customs, and security processes are seamlessly aligned. Efficient coordination ensures that flowers stay fresh and reach their destination on time.
A crucial discussion also centered on the need to streamline security procedures—specifically questioning why cargo that has already been x-rayed needs to be re-screened. Reducing redundant checks not only prevents unnecessary exposure to x-rays (important for sensitive cargo like perishables and electronics) but also contributes to lowering carbon emissions.
“India must take a cue from such best practices. There’s immense potential in optimizing our own logistics network—especially when it comes to ensuring perishable goods from our North Eastern states can reach international markets swiftly and efficiently. Time-bound movement and improved cargo infrastructure can transform the region into a vital hub for agro exports”, commented Mr. C K Govil, President of The Air Cargo Agents Association of India (ACAAI).
A key discussion also focused on eliminating redundant x-ray screenings. Once cargo is screened, it shouldn’t be re-screened—this avoids unnecessary exposure, saves time, and reduces carbon emissions.
“India can draw valuable lessons from this. By streamlining processes and improving connectivity, especially in our North Eastern states, we can help our perishable produce reach the world—fresh, fast, and efficiently ” he noted.
