First Train departs from Railport, Türkiye’s First Private Intermodal Terminal
KARTEPE: Railport, Türkiye’s first private intermodal terminal, officially launched its rail terminal operations with the inaugural train departure on 21 November 2025. This milestone marks a significant step in Railport’s operational commissioning process and represents an important advancement in strengthening Türkiye’s intermodal transport capacity.

The inaugural service was operated by Metrans, a railway operator renowned for its long standing history, extensive terminal network and strong expertise in intermodal transportation. This collaboration is regarded as a strategic beginning that supports the use of rail in freight movements between Türkiye and Europe.
Railport’s high standard terminal infrastructure, large handling capacity, advanced technological operation systems and strategically important geographic location will enable freight transported between Türkiye and Europe to move more regularly, more safely and through a more sustainable model. The first train departure serves as a milestone that reinforces the terminal’s integration with international intermodal networks.

Railport General Manager Fatih Yılmazkarasu stated: “The first train departure from Railport is a tangible demonstration of the contribution our terminal will make to rail transportation in Türkiye. This operation marks the beginning of our long term strategy aimed at enabling more effective use of intermodal transportation nationwide and offering competitive solutions to our customers.”
Following this initial movement, Railport and Metrans plan to continue their cooperation with regular train services, supporting the development of a sustainable logistics structure along the Türkiye Europe rail corridor.
