“Green and Sustainable Maritime Sector” in MIS 2021 session, convened by DPT Chairman S.K.Mehta
During opening address in breakout session5 in Maritime India Summit 2021,Shri S.K. Mehta emphasised on “Green & Sustainable Maritime Sector”.
On the second day of the International Summit MIS-2021, Shri S.K. Mehta, IFS, Chairman, DPT hosted and convened Break Out Session-5 on “Green and Sustainable Maritime Sector”. He emphasized on global best practices at Rotterdam, Singapore and Antwerp which can be replicated in domestic maritime sector. He highlighted collaboration and investment opportunities in solar, wind and renewable energy at Indian Ports.
The session was co-convened with Mr. Madhu Nair, CMD, Cochin Shipyard Ltd. and we had a series of speakers, 2 from India and 5 from abroad namely Mr JN Swain, IAS, CMD, Solar Energy Corporation of India, Mr Ingvar M Mathisen, Port Director & CEO, Port of Oslo, Ms Camille Egloff, MD & Senior Partner,
BCG Athens, Global Transportation and Logistics Leader, Greece, Mr Sanjay Verma, Director- Decarbonization Solution, Wartsila Singapore Pvt Limited Mr Christian Sovik, Senior Vice President-Sales, Corvus Energy Mr Akshay Kumar Singh, Managing Director and CEO, Petronet LNG Limited Mr Tomoaki Ichida, General Manager, Energy Business Strategy, Mitsui OSK Lines Japan & President, e5 Lab Inc. who talked about various topics from alternate fuel, to Renewable energy-solar, wind and hybrid, to battery operated vessels, Hybrid Vessels, Green Ports, LNG Bunkering, decarbonization initiatives, pollution control measures etc.
While Chairman, DPT presented on the Green Initiatives on the major port side with respect to Maritime India Vision-2030, Shri Madhu Nair co convened and talked about the shipping and shipbuilding side, and concluded the session.
Overall the session emphasized on the need of the policy measures and the ecosystem to bring in change in terms of Greening of the maritime sector.
