GTI (APM Terminal Mumbai) crosses 2 Million TEU Mark for 2025 in Record Time, Sets New Global Benchmark in Productivity
NAVI MUMBAI: Gateway Terminals India (GTI), the country’s busiest and most efficient container terminal, has achieved a major operational milestone by handling its two millionth TEU for the calendar year 2025—earlier than ever before in the terminal’s history.
The milestone was reached in the early hours of 27 November, underscoring GTI’s accelerating growth trajectory and its sustained push to expand capacity, strengthen productivity, and maximise throughput within existing infrastructure.
While GTI has surpassed the 2-million TEU mark several times in previous years, achieving the feat this early signals a new phase of performance optimisation. The terminal is now firmly on track to close the year at an estimated 2.2 million TEUs, handled over 712 metres of quay length.
This translates into an exceptional productivity average of nearly 3,100 TEUs per metre of quay, far outpacing the global average of 1,217 TEUs per metre, and placing GTI among the world’s most efficient terminals in terms of quay utilisation.
GTI attributed this achievement to the unwavering support of its customers, partners and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). The terminal operator noted that collaboration, operational discipline and the ability to “do more with the same” have been central to sustaining year-on-year improvements.
As India’s maritime trade continues to grow, GTI’s performance highlights the critical role of operational excellence, technology adoption and capacity optimisation in driving the country’s port competitiveness.
