Gujarat, Rajasthan to get new direct daily train with Sabarmati-Bikaner Express

AHMEDABAD : Union Railway Minister Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw will soon flag off the new Sabarmati-Bikaner Express, providing direct daily rail connectivity between Gujarat and western Rajasthan.

The new express train service aims to benefit students, working professionals, traders and travellers commuting between Ahmedabad and Bikaner.

The launch follows a series of railway infrastructure developments in the region.

In May, Vaishnaw extended the Sabarmati-Jodhpur Superfast Express to Jaisalmer, whilst also flagging off the Bhuj-Delhi Express via the Bhildi-Jalore-Luni-Pali Marwar route.

The Railway Minister has been actively expanding rail connectivity across Gujarat and Rajasthan throughout 2025 and 2026.

The Sabarmati station, located near Ahmedabad, already serves as a terminus for several long-distance trains. Several trains currently operate between Sabarmati and Bikaner, covering approximately 727 kilometres. Journey times on existing services range from 12 to 14 hours, with trains halting at major stations including Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Marwar Junction, Jodhpur and Nagaur.

The new express service is expected to provide enhanced connectivity along this corridor. Indian Railways has invested heavily in Gujarat’s rail infrastructure, with projects worth Rs 1.28 lakh crore currently underway in the state.

Since 2014, nearly 2,900 kilometres of new railway tracks have been constructed in Gujarat, with the state receiving Rs 17,366 crore in this year’s Railway Budget allocation.
