Historic Rail Connectivity at CONCOR’s GCT-Varnama
VADODARA : In a significant development for India’s logistics sector, CONCOR has established rail connectivity for the Gati Shakti Multi-Modal Cargo Terminal (GCT) at Varnama with the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC).
On December 21, 2024, the first double-stack container train arrived at GCT-Varnama from Khatuwas and Dadri, carrying JNPT-bound export cargo. This terminal will also facilitate the conversion of import containers into double-stack trains for Northern India, ensuring faster and sustainable movement via the WDFC.
Strategic Benefits
• Efficiency: Faster and seamless cargo transit.
• Capacity: Double-stacking optimizes container handling.
• Sustainability: Reduced carbon emissions with electrified freight.
Boost for Vadodara
• Faster Turnaround Times: Reduced transit durations for export and import cargo, enhancing supply chain efficiency.
• Direct Connectivity: Access to major ports like Mundra and JNPT.
• Trade and Growth: Enhanced logistics infrastructure driving industrial growth.
CONCOR, CMD, Shri Sanjay Swarup, highlighted this achievement as a milestone under the Gati Shakti initiative, strengthening India’s position as a global trade hub.
