India is key to Global Supply Chain : PM Modi

NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on Saturday at NXT Conclave said that India is becoming a reliable partner in the global supply chain and it is due to the planned and systematic policy decision of the government.

“We are not only providing our products to the world, we are becoming a reliable partner in the global supply chain,” he said, adding that now farmers are selling their produce to the whole world which were earlier restricted to the local haats only.

Earlier, India was import centric and now it is evolving into an emerging exporting hub, he said. PM Modi said that there is a mantra in the core which is “minimum government and maximum governance.”India ranks second worldwide in farm outputs. As per the Indian economic survey 2020 -21, agriculture employed more than 50% of the Indian workforce and contributed 20.2% to the country’s GDP.

According to the government data, agricultural exports from India increased from USD 22.70 billion in 2013-14 to USD 48.15 billion in 2023-24. Most of its agriculture exports serve developing and least developed nations. Indian agricultural/horticultural and processed foods are exported to more than 120 countries, primarily to Japan, Southeast Asia, SAARC countries, the European Union and the United States.
He also stressed that India has shown a substantial growth in agriculture and currently India is supplying 60% of turmeric to the world and it is also the 7th largest producer of coffee globally.

Agriculture, with its allied sectors, is unquestionably the largest livelihood provider in India, more so in the vast rural areas. Sustainable agriculture, in terms of food security, rural employment, and environmentally sustainable technologies such as soil conservation, and sustainable natural resources are essential for holistic rural development. Indian agriculture and allied activities have witnessed a green revolution, a white revolution, a yellow revolution and a blue revolution.

Indian medicines and electronic products are making their own identity in the world, he said, adding that “overall, India is leading in the global initiatives.” PM Modi also said that India was the back office for the world earlier now it is becoming the new factory and it shows the country is progressing.
